PAMELA OLSON ART
Ceramic Sculpture & Installation
The beauty of the natural landscape and the diverse textures and forms of its individual elements draw my attention. In my work, I bring the individual units into focus as their own landscape for close consideration. I am fascinated and inspired by the transformations that occur within the cycle of life and the seasons of nature.
A significant aspect of my art is process: the process of observing, the process of collecting and the process of making. The process of making transforms the “real” and ephemeral object into a more permanent state. This enables me to duplicate the microcosms of the landscape and present them as macrocosms of their own.
As these objects are manifested, transformation occurs and they acquire a quiet and timeless quality. Focusing on and replicating the individual unit is a way for me to enshrine and to transform the natural landscape, while the fragility of the refigured objects and landscapes is a metaphor for the fragility of our natural world.
After growing up in Michigan, I have lived in Colorado and California and enjoyed the natural landscape in its abundant variety of forms and environments. I attended California State University for my Bachelors Degree and I received my Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where I taught ceramics classes. I love teaching and have also taught Ceramic Arts at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, and Metropolitan State College of Denver as well as a master’s class in Mould Making & Slip Casting at the Boulder Potters Guild. I joined the guild in 2002 and continue to appreciate the supportive community and talents our members have to offer. I have been creating sculpture for over 20 years and I specialize in one-of–a-kind artworks in various mediums for the home, office or corporation. Please view my website and call to visit my studio.
