Pam Lambert

My adventure into ceramics began in 1998, when I took a 6-week class at Green Man Pottery in north Boulder. Needless to say, in six weeks the only thing I learned was that I’d like to continue some day. That day had to wait until 2000, when between jobs and seeking a creative outlet, I signed up for my first class at the Boulder Pottery Lab. Three years later I was still there, taking classes and working as an apprentice, mostly cleaning and mixing glazes, filling my nasal passages with dust and compensating with antihistamines. So when in early 2004 I first applied to the Guild and was offered the position of apprentice cleaner, I respectfully declined and decided to enroll in Guild classes while waiting for a membership position. That was offered in 2005. Since then I’ve served two years on the Board of Trustees, the first as Maintenance Chair and the second as Secretary (when I had fun creating a full-color monthly newsletter that unfortunately kept me out of my studio).

I still consider myself a novice potter, since--as can be seen in these photos --I have yet to discover a style that is uniquely me. I continue to take Guild classes when I take time away from my business, NovAurora Organic Skin Care, and play in clay in my home studio to keep myself balanced and happy. Most of my work goes to friends and family as gifts and what’s left seems to find its way off the shelves at Guild sales.

My favorite work falls into two categories, what I call The Feminine and The Zen: Flowing curves with dancing skirts or clean, simple lines with unusual surface treatments (deep translucent turquoise, raku, occasionally crystalline glaze): as many non-functional pieces as functional. And now and then a ceramic basket or other hand built piece.
